A day of etching

Etching takes 2 minutes – it’s all about the prep. First, I’m setting out to do something I haven’t done in years. I designed my window with the idea of etched panels in it. Finding an historic pattern in a book called “Florid Victorian Ornament” to use / making a graphic translation of a rather detailed line drawing /doing something that can be cut out. From years as a graphic designer – before computers – where I had to cut out rubylith film – I got rather good with a knife. This design was challenging because of thin line weights. There is sheer joy in creating something and then holding it up to the light – and finding out it worked out.
